Juxtapose.

She sat alone in her room surrounded by haunting pictures of her past, her friends, her home, all the things she wanted, but no longer had. What she longed for, but knew no longer existed. She lived in what used to be, it was all she knew. Totally engulfed in the past she was startled to reality when something hit her window. She opened her curtains for the first time in weeks and allowed real light in, allowing the present to surround her. She looked out her window and felt a unexpected rush of happiness seeing a little girl playing ball with her dad. Seeing the happiness on that young child's face created an uncontrollable smile to spread across her lips. for the first time in months, she loved where she was, being surrounded by the real world.
